Summary:
The Director, HSQE creates a corporate culture for a safe work environment for our employees and contractors and promotes the ownership of safety by all stakeholders.

Requirements:
  • Ensures Company safety management systems are adhered to and implemented.
  • Maintains and updates company safety management systems for continuous improvement.
  • Ensures environmental stewardship meets or exceeds contractual requirements and regional regulations.
  • Performs HSQE budget management, proposal preparation, and monthly status reviews for department.
  • Resources and schedules Safety staffing, including initial planning for a project, review during the project, and coordinating Safety resources with Management to support all sectors.
  • Participates in Project Management and Senior Management meetings for internal project status. 
  • Issues resolution and support for internal/external areas.
  • Reviews procedures for safety and health impact in company processes.
  • Reports HSQE metrics and statistics for company weekly and monthly reports.
  • Operates Company aligned vehicle for project site visits.
  • Attends work regularly and punctually, as scheduled or expected.
  • Complies with Employee Handbook, Code of Conduct, and Company Policies & Procedures.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Reviews proposals and Requests for Proposals (RFP’s) for detail related to HSQE. 
Safety: 
  • Presents, supports, and leads-by-example with a safety and quality-oriented attitude.
  • Leads by example to show that safety is the most important function, ensuring that all employees follow safe practices while working.
  • Accountable to continually reinforce safe behaviors and correct “at risk” behaviors.
  • Adheres to and ensures all site team members understands standard operating procedures.
  • Leads and supports the site team in technical, quality and safety, utilizing system in place.  
Leadership: 
  • Fosters and demonstrates a workplace inclusive of creating opportunity, serving others, building trust, innovation, and exceeding expectations.
  • Manages one or more direct reports.
  • Participates in hiring and selection process to fill positions on the team.
  • Communicates regularly with direct reports on goals, accomplishments, and information on policies.

  • Provides tasks and assignments that challenge and stretch employees’ responsibilities.
  • Conducts regular discussions with employee(s) on personal development. Comfortable with empowering others.
  • Conducts timely, effective performance reviews in accordance with RES guidelines.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree (preferably in a construction-related field) required.
  • Board Certification Certified Safety Professional (CSP)/Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) required.
  • 10 or more years' experience in a similar position with comparable construction projects required.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally 31 to 50% required.
  • Must possess a Valid Driver’s License.
  • Advanced level of knowledge in:
    • Communication
      • Internally with executive managers, Directors, Project Managers, Estimators, Project Developers, Engineering, HR and HSQE and cross-functional departmental teams.
      • Externally with owners, subcontractors, and federal OSHA representatives
      • Capable of writing, reviewing, and amending management procedures
    • Safety management
    • Health & Safety Management Systems
    • Budgeting 
    • Contract and Project management 
    • Safety regulations and standards applicable to North American construction works (including OSHA, EPA, NIOSH, ANSI, DOT, etc.)
    • Safety program auditing
    • Professional, industry practices & ISO requirements 
    • Experience with Design phases/reviews 
    • Auditing & Inspection experience 
    • Recognize issues requiring action

Anticipated base salary range:  $164,000 - $182,000

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. This position is bonus eligible.

Physical requirements and environment:
